Economist Endorsement

January 31st, 2008 · No Comments

I won’t reproduce the entire article right here, but an endorsement came out today which may be particularly interesting for those of us at the b-school - Former Fed Chairman Paul Volcker endorsed Senator Obama.  Take a look at http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2008/01/31/volcker-i-endorse-obama/
I’m generally unimpressed with lists of endorsement as they often speak more to the politics of a situation, rather [...]

The other Kennedys Speak Out in Favor of HRC

Kennedys for Clinton
She stands for Democrats and for the nation, these family members say.
By Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Kerry Kennedy January 29, 2008
This is a wonderful year for Democrats. Our party is blessed with the most impressive array of primary candidates in modern history. All would make superb presidents.  We [...]

Vision or Experience?

January 25th, 2008 · No Comments

The central debate in the Democratic primary campaign to date has been one of “experience” (Clinton) versus ”hope” (Obama).  Or ”action” versus “words.”  Or, as Obama put it, it’s a matter of judgment.  (Whether or not you accept this formulation — which I don’t — is another story.)  This debate, though, begs two important questions: (1) what is [...]

Tim Russert – are you kidding me?

January 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Tim Russert seems to be bent on avoiding legitimate questions in the Republican debate - He asks Huckabee whether he trusts McCain on taxes, then he asks Romney if he trusts McCain on taxes.  The best part - after Huckabee, to his credit, says the issue of trust is up to the voters and Romney [...]

What does it take to “follow through”?

January 24th, 2008 · No Comments

I certainly agree with Catherine that most of the Democratic candidates are making similar promises.  I keep hearing this argument though that Hillary will better be able to “follow through” on those promises – While I’m trying to be open-minded on the point, it seems a tough sell.
For example, what is it going to take [...]

Today’s Results

January 19th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I, for one, am grateful that Hillary took Nevada.  I appreciate how moving Barack Obama’s speeches are but I am convinced that she will be better able to follow through on the similar promises that our candidates are making.
As for the other team, I am relieved that Huckabee lost and am holding my breath as the [...]

New Hampshire and Iowa

January 19th, 2008 · No Comments

Before the primaries began I heard a number of people say that Iowa and New Hampshire would no longer have a major impact on who received the Democratic and Republican nomination.  Now that they are past, what’s the verdict?
I think that they still mattered - a lot.  Huckabee and McCain, whose campaigns were were virtually [...]

Yet another reason why CJW loves HRC

January 13th, 2008 · No Comments

I think that everyone should read the article by Gloria Steinem in the International Herald Tribune titled “American women are never front-runners.”  Please cut and paste the below link:
http://mobile.iht.com/articles/edsteinem.1.9152446.xhtml
Most important is the ending where Ms Steinem talks about what worries her.  I, too, am concerned that Obama is seen as unifying his race while Hillary is seen [...]
